This is the chapter where we start to apply some of the basics discussed in the previous chapter, 'How distillation works'. We look at batch and
continuous distillation, describing the differences between these two processes. then go on to examine a simple still that might be used to survive in a desert. The point of this exercise is to point up the fact that
even simple equipment may be improved if enough thought is given to it. For this is the aim of the book - to encourage you to think of what is happening with a particular piece of equipment, and then see if improvements
can't be made using that knowledge. It's the difference between painting a picture by numbers, slavishly following a set of step-by-step instructions with no idea of what is going on, |
