Alcohol Dilution Table

We have received many requests for a simple table that will help simplify the job of diluting a given strength of alcohol to another strength.  This table, kindly provided by Dr. Gary Spedding, Brewing and Distilling Analytical Services, Lexington, KY, USA, is about as easy as it gets.

If you would like to save this table so you can then print it out, simply click on the small graphic below to see a full-sized version.  Page down a bit, and you will also see a link to instructions and examples on how to use the table.

We hope you find this table useful.  Just remember, however, that it is only a guide and that you should always check the final strength you get with a good hydrometer, at the correct temperature, to confirm the final result of dilution.  Note the bit about "correct temperature", as alcohol gives off heat when diluted.  If you measure when the temperature is above that which your hydrometer is calibrated for, then the reading will be too high.
