Chapter Five - Operating Procedures
What do I do now?

No need to get lost!

Full directions for operating all the types of still described in Chapters 3 and 4 are detailed here in this chapter about Operating Procedures.

Each stage of operation is described simply and clearly, describing not only what you should do but why you do it. We show you first how to calibrate your equipment to give you maximum control, then give a detailed account of each stage as it will occur.

We cover:

  • Pot stills - 3 stages
  • Simple Reflux stills - 4 stages
  • Compound stills - 5 stages

In this way, we give you full control over what you do, with the knowledge and freedom to vary the way you go about it to best suit your own, personal circumstances.

It doesn't matter whether you have ever done this before or not, or whether you fully understand what is going on inside the still.  Our aim was to provide instructions so simple that you could read them out to anyone in the next room and be sure it would be done right, first time, every time.
